Cat Food Reviews

Choosing the right type of nutritional food for your cat is one of the most important decisions you will make as a cat owner. There are hundreds of different cat food brands on the market, each with it's own set of advantages, disadvantages, and customer opinions. Though much of the official information about a certain type of cat food may sound positive (especially when referring to the manufacturer's website), it's still possible to choose a type of cat food that will not be the ideal choice for your cat's nutritional needs. Making the decision of which cat food you should choose for your pet may seem like an extremely difficult task to handle alone.

Cat Food Reviews is a great site with objective, informative reviews of many different cat food brands. In addition to this, there is a forum available which enables a cat owner to converse with fellow cat owners around the world, sharing personal experiences with different types of cat food in their Cat Food Forum. This includes brand-name cat foods, dry cat food, canned cat food, raw feeding (feeding your cat a diet consisting of raw ingredients) and homemade cat food recipes.

Having access to the personal experiences of other cat owners is an extremely valuable tool, especially when searching for the best possible way to care for your cat's health needs. Cat Food Reviews has provided an interactive environment for cat owners to share their advice, suggestions, complaints and comments about their own experiences in raising their pets.

One of the huge benefits of taking advantage of the information in the Cat Food Nutrition Forum is that you will have the ability to interact with other cat lovers. The general attitude of other cat owners are unbiased, and based on personal opinions formed through experience. With the advice and support of other people who are passionate about their pets, you will be able to access the vast amount of information available to help you to make the best possible decisions in regards to your cat's health.

International Fund for Animal Welfare

From the outset, the founders of the International Fund for Animal Welfare, or IFAW, rejected the notion that the interests of humans and animals were separate.  Instead they embraced the understanding that the fate and future of harp seals-and all other animals on Earth-are inextricably linked to our own.

IFAW's courageous actions drew international attention to the plight of the seal pups and successfully rallied worldwide condemnation of the hunt.  Thanks to IFAW's continued vigilance, it is now illegal to hunt whitecoat seal pups for commercial purposes on the ice floes off Canada's east coast.  This is a fragile victory, however, for Canada's commercial seal hunt persists.  IFAW continues to document and expose abuses of the commercial hunt and press for an end to this cruel, unsustainable slaughter. Over the years, the small team of committed campaigners reaching out to help seals has grown to become the world's leading international animal welfare organization. IFAW begins its fourth decade of operation with more than 200 experienced campaigners, legal and political experts, and internationally acclaimed scientists working from offices in 17 countries around the world.

The Fund For Animals

The Fund for Animals was founded in 1967 by prominent author and animal advocate Cleveland Amory. For 37 years, The Fund has spearheaded some of the most significant events in the history of the animal protection movement by employing hard-hitting advocacy campaigns and operating world-famous animal care facilities like the Black Beauty Ranch.

The Fund's historic victories have saved thousands of animals from cruelty and suffering.

In 2005, The Fund for Animals and The Humane Society of the United States joined together to form an unprecedented partnership for animals. Since then The Fund has expanded its efforts to protect animals in the courts and provide for their veterinary, sanctuary, and rehabilitative needs at direct animal care facilities.

The Fund has won landmark lawsuits to protect animals from hunting and trapping, and the organization is currently fighting for animals with the help of the Animal Protection Litigation section. This group of full-time attorneys, law clerks, and pro bono law firms are defending animals in federal and state courts from cruelty and abuse. The Fund's current cases seek to protect endangered species, stop the abuse of circus elephants, keep national wildlife refuges safe for animals, and much more.

First Book

First Book provides new books to children in need addressing one of the most important factors affecting literacy – access to books. The inspiration for the organization was born when Kyle Zimmer, a corporate lawyer by day and tutor at an inner-city soup kitchen by night, discovered that the children she tutored had no books to read.

Kyle discovered that the majority of programs reaching low-income populations have few, if any, age-appropriate books for the children they serve. She realized that there were millions of potential readers, future workers, citizens and parents, who were eager to love reading and learning, but were without the tools to do so. Spurred to action, Kyle left her day job and in 1992 founded First Book to provide new books and resources to the children who needed them the most.

That first year, First Book delivered 12,000 books to local communities in the Washington DC area. Now, 17 years later, First Book has deliver more than 60 million books to programs serving children in need across the United States and Canada.

By providing new books to children in preschools and after-school programs, mentoring and tutoring programs, shelters and day care centers and beyond, First Book provides resources to empower teachers and administrators. With access to high-quality books, educational materials and more, these caring leaders can better teach, plan curriculum and impart a love of learning, elevating the quality of the programs and opportunities available to children in need.

Through our innovative models, First Book has transformed a fragmented group of programs serving the most vulnerable children into a vibrant, centralized network numbering more than 20,000 groups serving millions of children. Through the First Book Marketplace, First Book National Book Bank and First Book Advisory Boards, First Book continues to expand our offerings of free and low-cost books to better meet the needs of the programs and children we serve.

First Book envisions a world where all children have an enriched learning environment with new books and educational resources of their own.

Powell's Books

From humble storefront beginnings in 1971 on a derelict corner of northwest Portland, Oregon, Powell's Books has grown into one of the world's great bookstores, with seven locations in the Portland metropolitan area, and one of the book world's most successful dot-coms (Powell's.com), serving customers worldwide.

Powell's roots began in Chicago, where Michael Powell, as a University of Chicago graduate student, opened his first bookstore in 1970. Encouraged by friends and professors, including novelist Saul Bellow, Michael borrowed $3,000 to assume a lease on a bookstore. The venture proved so successful that he managed to repay the loan within two months.

Michael's father Walter, a retired painting contractor, worked one summer with Michael in the Chicago store. He so enjoyed his experience that upon returning to Portland he opened his own used bookstore.

Michael joined Walter in 1979, creating a bookstore with a unique recipe that, though viewed as unorthodox, worked: Used and new, hardcover and paperback, all on the same shelf, open 365 days a year and staffed by knowledgeable and dedicated book lovers.

Michael says, "In the used book world, mixing paperbacks and hardbacks was not so much of a stretch, but when my dad had the idea of bringing in new books too, I had no sympathy. Used and new on the same shelf? It seemed crazy." However, Michael concludes, combining books "had synergy way beyond what we expected. If you put all the new books in one store and all the used books in another, each wouldn't get half the total business — they drive each other."

Six stores and several expansions later, Powell's went online in 1994, and experienced immediate success. Within two years, Powell's entire inventory was listed on the web.

Being a avid quilter and a cat blogger she asked her readers if anyone would be interested in buying a quilt for their cat.

The answer was most emphatically, "Yes."

By the end of the first day she had 15 orders, and by the end of the first week that total had climbed to 30.

Cat bloggers said she would be "Bizzy for Gizzy" and named the quilts "Gizzy Quilts."

At the end of the first year she had already made and shipped over 150 quilts. She had expected to make maybe 5, and dreamed of making 10.

Gizzy Quilts are 2 foot square and can be requested in your cats favorite colors, or colored to match your cat.

Cost per quilt is $45 plus $5 priority shipping and a $2.50 handling fee.
